O Great Mystery!
O great mystery,
and wonderful sacrament,
that animals should see the new-born Lord,
lying in a manger!
Blessed is the virgin whose womb
was worthy to bear
Christ the Lord.
Alleluia!
O Magnum Mysterium – O Great Mystery! So the beautiful song in Catholic liturgy calls us to sing. And it is – God becoming one of us to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. How can you explain it? You cannot! It is sheer mystery to be accepted as a gift and before which to stand in awe and humility. O Magnum Mysterium – that some of the first breaths God with us would feel would be that of cow and donkey.
